The job of a gutter system is to keep rain water from damaging your home. A properly designed and installed gutter system will direct water away from the foundation and siding. A good gutter system will keep water from ponding which can attract mosquitos. Newer, clean and well maintained gutters will improve your property value.
Your gutters may not be working properly if you see water running over the back or front side of the gutter. If you see peeling paint, wood rot or mold on your eaves or siding, the gutters may be clogged or may not be flowing freely. They may just need to be cleaned, or you may need larger downspouts.
There are several gutter types and styles, sizes, material and colors to choose from. Two common styles are "Fascia", and "OGEE", and they both do a good job moving water. Choose a style that will compliment the look of your home. Most roofs will only need a 5 1/2" gutter, but a large roof surface may need a 7 1/2" to keep the water from cascading over the gutter. We offer "Fascia" type seamless gutters in 5 1/2" and 7 1/2", and our standard colors are white and musket brown, but we also offer custom colors and copper.
It's best to have your new seamless rain gutters installed after your old roofing material has been removed and before the new roof has been installed.
Yes! They do keep the majority of leaves, etc. from building up and producing compost in your gutters. However, they are not completely maintenance free. You will need to brush them off in the Fall and again in the Spring to keep them open and the water flowing into the gutters.
That would depend on the reason for the leaks. If the gutters are only leaking at the ends, corners or downspout outlets, they may just need to be re-sealed. If you have obvious rusted holes in the bottom of your gutter, or they have been badly dented, then they will probably need to be replaced. Again, we can come out and give you that free inspection and estimate to repair or replace.
This is a tough question to answer, as each installation presents it's own level of difficulty. We offer free estimates so we can discuss your project with you and address everything you would like to accomplish. This allows us to give you an honest and accurate estimate.
You should inspect and clean your gutter systems in the Fall and again in the Spring.
